Timed Writing

In high school we only had timed writings really only during standardized testing. Timed writing is an effective to help young students grow as writers. Timed writing helps you to think on your feet about the topic, and knowing you have a limited time you try to write the best paper possible. Not seeing this type of writing often, i think was a disadvantage in standardized testing because i was never really taught how to write this way effectively. Had i been taught how to write on my feet effectively i could have done better on those tests. I think that all indiana schools should teach and have timed writings throughout the semester to help prepare for tests like the SAT so that students can write to the best of their ability.

High School English Teachers

Throughout high school I really didn't have an english teacher i liked. I thought most took their jobs to seriously and just the overall way they ran their class just wasn't good. Also most of the topics that we discussed in class weren't the best choices. One thing that i did enjoy though was reading great american novels, like the great gatsby. I remember my junior year we had to do a research paper on where we want to go to college and why. We were to choose 3 colleges and make the paper the best it could. I had said i wanted to go into the aviation field and chose three schools on the west coast since i was to be moving there. As you can see now, i chose not to go into that field nor go to a school on the west coast, and i'm not going to say i'm glad i didn't but im not disappointed. This class has helped me to become a better writer, and i am going to say that this is the best english class i have ever had.

First Year is Over

The first year of college is over. The time flew by, i met people that i would have never met if i didn't come here. I am also very close to be done with english for college. Completing english 101 and 102 has had a positive effect on my writing ability. I believe i have developed into a decent writer and i could only thank karen for helping me become the best writer i can. Overall i had a great time in this english class though i started slipping the second half of this year. One thing that i really wasn't too good at before was giving good detailed feedback, and all the feedback that we did in class helped to improve me for the better. This year went by extremely fast and it might seem that i didnt learn that much but if i could say i learned anything i could say i bettered myself as college level writer.

Facebook.com

In today's modern age almost everyone who's in school is on facebook. Even adults and grandparents are learning the computer for the first time through facebook. The assignment given to create a fan page is pretty unique, because there are pages that are just there for jokes like "I bet this onion ring can get more fans than justin beiber" to more serious ones like "Republican Party" and "Democratic Party". Todays biggest celebrities and athletes have facebook but most of them use twitter as their social network choice. Facebook is pretty interesting because people from all over the world could possibly join our page and hopefully we'll get more then ourselves to join our page.

An evening with Ted Koppel

Before last night i had only a general idea who ted koppel was. The discussion started a little later then the scheduled 730 start time. I guess pruis hall was full because they sent the overflow of people to the teachers college which is where i watched the presentation from. Ted seemed like a very knowledgeable person and mentioned his status about our national debt by saying, "Our Country is in Deep trouble.... and it is getting worse." He also mentioned something that i did not know which was that we have spent between 1 and 2 trillion dollars on the war in iraq and Afghanistan. He gave 2 ways to fix the debt, Raise Taxes, Cut Entitlements, and Print more money. None of which would have positive outcomes. He also stated that the war in Afghanistan is caused by the Nuclear weapons in Pakistan. Overall I thought he did a very good job and am glad i got an opportunity to hear him speak.

The famous Rev. Jesse Jackson

Seeing a flyer on the main entrance of lafallotte saying that Rev. Jesse Jackson was going to speak at Ball State I thought it would be a great opportunity to see an individual who has been so influential to our country. The auditorium was packed as the Reverend took the stage to talk about political and social topics. I forgot exactly what he said when he got the crowd to repeat in unison what he had said but it was really neat that crowd was so into it. Another thing i liked about him was even though he was running late he still took time for a Q&A session after he had finished speaking. Overall he met all my expectations of what he was going to do at ball state which was to inform us on his top of 'How are we living the legacy', and even shared events that happened between martin luther king jr and him self. It was very influential to have heard him speak and something i will never forget.

ESFP personality

Today i found out that my personality is most like a ESFP person. This type of person has the traits wanting to work in groups and being a people person. I would say the overall definition of this personality sounds most like me. Its interesting how someone took the time to figure all this out. Overall, i think it is a right on definition on who i am.
